3D Design Problem

Hi guys,

Dont often use forums so apologies if this isnt the place to post this,

i've been approached by a client whon designs 3d crystals (faces inside crystal) he often gets people asking him if they can give them a 2d photo for him to change into 3d, he asked me to do it as i design all of his artwork etc...i have no clue but am going to try and go out of my way to learn, i know there is a way but he sends the photos to paris apparently and it ends up costing the customer a fortune, i believe the output file is a cbf or cbr? any ideas where i start or what software i can use?

many thanks

Scott

I don't know about CBF or CBR. Could it be a CAD file? CAD is a file type that is made by Autodesk and they own Maya, which is a popular 3D software package used by may 3D artists. I believe Maya will open CAD files and the you would be able to render them into quote photos unquote. But don't quote me on that. I'm a Lightwave guy, not a Maya guy.

As for you being able to do that.......errrr....ummmmm......well....perhaps with the right schooling or 5 years of constant self training.......perhaps.

A short tutorial that is crazy fast to follow

If you meant “facets inside crystal” instead of “faces inside crystal” then that is much easier. Still a ton of work for someone with no experience.

Are you asking if a 2d photo of someone can be turned into a 3d image or digital info and then used to create the crystal?
