Well, last night I got to attend the Edmonton Oilers vs. Anaheim Mighty Ducks game at the Edmonton Coliseum. You Canadians will probably recognize this picture as the World's Largest Drug Store:
No actually, that's our Coliseum in town. Everything in town has been renamed to commemorate corporate sponsor or something. The Northlands Coliseum is now called "Rexall Place" after the big pharmaceutical company, and the main road to get there has been renamed to "Wayne Gretzky Drive" after our most prosperous celebrity.
I'm sort of proud of that picture, not because it's the best picture I could take, but because it was taken hand-held at night, from a moving vehicle, through the passenger-side window. All that in consideration, I think it came out quite well.
Anyways, once inside... We had a skyroom up at the top of the bleachers, and this is the view of our little executive suite, with catered food and drinks. Not my favorite brand of gin, but I got by nonetheless.
And here is our enigmatic host showing off his muscles.
On to the game... Unfortunately, although I have a fast lens, I did not have a decent telescopic, and we were quite high up on our balcony from the skyroom (in fact we looked DOWN on the overhead scoreboard). Not that I mind of course - I prefer the private washrooms, bar, and buffet to sitting lower down in the bleachers any day. However, the pictures are not the best because of that, and I'm sure the intoxication didn't help either.
Our hockey bus had stopped off first at Don Cherry's, and we just made it through the weather and traffic in time for the opening anthem:
Then... ON TO THE GAME!
Set 1:
Face-off!
