Nah, work is destroyed. There is disaster unemployment you can claim from the federal government, but I haven't gotten around to the paperwork yet. Hoping to get down there tomorrow morning.

My brother and I were out today trying to sign up to volunteer and to drop off clothes/food. I have never seen so many supplies in my life. There is easily a case of water for every person in Joplin. The outreach and flood of supplies is overwhelming. We were turned away from virtually every place because there are too many supplies and volunteers.
I'm going to get to do data entry tomorrow, so at least I feel a little less useless.

So, that happened.
I now know what a rotating wall cloud looks like. And I never want to see one in person again. The funnel popped about five minutes after it passed over my neighborhood, when it was over the Gateway Arch. So far there's not a lot of damage reported except for the expected hail damage at local auto dealerships.
There's flooding reported along my regular route to work, so I may have to consider an alternate in the morning.
And fortunately the second front that was forming fell apart before it hit. It's supposed to be moderately calm for the next few days.
Z, I'm sorry to hear your work was in the path. I guess it's too early to know how long it will take for them to rebuild & reopen. I wish you all the luck.

Glad you were able to stay safe garricks.
ZHGD, so sorry to hear about your disaster. Glad you're safe.
I just keep remembering the one time I know of that a tornado touched down outside my home town when I was in about 6th grade. It hit mom's cousin's farm. Thankfully no one was injured, only buildings and not their home. The one thing that always stands out in my mind was seeing the single piece of straw that struck straight though a wall of the house and stuck out straight as a pin. I remember thinking how terrible that was and now, to see this....that's just minor compared to what every one in Joplin and the area is experiencing now.

This is the first time I can remember being truly afraid of a storm. I'm very happy to be in my intact, albeit messy, home this evening. I do have some yard cleanup to do thanks to the wind.
In the confusion during the storm, I didn't notice until hours later that my hydrangea have thrown buds today.
Folks, if you can spare some bucks, please send them to the Red Cross for disaster relief efforts. It's not just Missouri. Wisconsin, Kansas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana, Tennesee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia have been hit by tornadoes. Your help is needed.
I'm SO lucky.

If you move up here and join me and Audi, you won't have to worry about dam breaks either....Just the occasional blizzard/snow storm...but Calgary is always prepared for them and you'll be able to go out by noon.

Wow Z that sucks. But at least there is a bit of help to be had.
Glad you're okay Garricks. Hopefully the worst of it has passed you over now.
I concur with Bladez everyone needs to come live in Calgary. We only get the very occasional flood. Maybe a big one every 20 years and so long as your house isn't ON the riverbank you're good (only the millionaires get screwed over), just might have to avoid a few roads.
Then our snowstorms where the roads are treacherous. But then you don't leave home, or you just go to work and home again right away.
One of the big reasons I still live in this city is it's lake of natural disasters. It's a huge plus to me. (and we have very few bugs b/c of the extreme cold we get a few times a year in the winter)
