edit colored boxes

I'm correcting a book that has black text on colored boxes created in Indy. The client wants to change the color of the boxes but I can not select those boxes in order to change the color. I can edit the text but not the boxes. All text and colored boxes are within a text box. Any thoughts out there? Thanks

Could be a table. With the text cursor in the text press escape to select the cell.

Also hover the mouse outside the text area to see if the mouse changes.

Could be that the Text Frame is coloured. You can use the black arrow tool to select the frame.

I'm not sure I understand why you can't select the boxes. Are they placed images? Are they boxes drawn in InDesign, copied and pasted inline into the text boxes?

Locked layer? Master Page items perhaps?

Press CTRL (CMD) H to view frame edges. If the frame edges are dotted then it's on the master page.
