let me bend you over!
Hi receiver,
Thanks for contacting us. Yes, we are looking for graphic design support. Thanks for going to our present site. Ideally, we would like a student intern who could support us while we help them build their portfolio, which might later turn into a paid position, but that's all negotiable depending on the person and their present skills.
Here's what we are looking for:
- new company logo, from present (no name) to (new name)
- various collateral support - ads, flyers, business cards, signs, etc
- new website for (no name) Home site/landing page and then that would link off from the (no name) Home landing page to (no name) site (the one you saw) and to another new site, (no name) (that needs to be created, as well)
- several things for the website(s) - tear sheets that can be printed, updates to websites, new sections, etc
- assistance with various social media
Thanks,
giver
to me, this sounds like " let me bend you over while you take it, you cute little student intern."
for me, a real internship (for graphic designers) should be held at a graphic design studio, where you shadow the other designers, do small work (cutting, assembling, pre flight). this position, on the other hand, is for a furniture design company.
it seems like this guy is trying to rebrand his company in exchange for the old "build your portfolio!" excuse. what do you guys/gals think?

yep - that is not what the traditional internship would be. But unfortunately, like you, i've seen more and more of this type of "job" showing up in the papers and online.
And there will still be that poor soul that falls for it.

I see this on Craigslist all the time, they even take it a step further sometimes with knowledge of video/sound editing and programming thrown in the mix.

I think if you want a web-site built, whether an intern, student, non-accredited or accredited, they better be paid. Heck, a local church came to my school and paid a classmate of mine $XXX to build a site for their church. And that's just high-school tech students, paid by a non-profit type of organization.
And that's just the web-site alone. Even with my current capabilities, and reputation as a student designer at a technical school, I'd demand $XXX-$XXX for all of that in one big combo. Now that I see you also want posters, flyers, and other such-things done, I'd be tempted to raise the bar to $XXX.
Suck on that for a while.

An internship position means there is a mentor. Someone to show you how to do it and to rap your knuckles when you do it wrong. Calling this an internship is wrong. A professor pawning this off as an internship to a student is also wrong.
