Help us out here.
What version of the operating system?
Did you just do the 10.3.7 update?
Does AI CS not open at all? Or does it stall during startup?
Does it stall in a certain place?
Do you have a font utility cuz my first guess is you have a corrupted font.
Second guesses come later.

Mac.OS X version 10.3.7. AI Version 8.0 (CS) yes I did the 10.3.7 update than re-start the pbg4 and still nothing. No, it does not open at all. It looks like it's going to but it does not. When I click on the icon it will automatically start reading the file (like it normally does) but then all of a sudden it will just quit and a dialog box will appear stating something like 'adobe illustrator cs has unexpectedly quit. the system and other applications have not been affected. Would you like to sumbit a bug report to Apple? No, I don't have a font utility.

Ok wait.
Are you just doubleclicking on an illy file to open the progam?
Is the file you are trying to open on a Network server? If so, try copying it to your desktop and open it from inside Illustrator (file>open) instead of double clicking the file icon.
Do other files open?
Does the program itself open either from an alias in your dock or directly from it's folder on the hard drive?
If you still get the error message when opening the program directly, I still suspect a font.
Just a note that 10.3.7 has been wreaking havoc on some users, but only some. Messing up everything from dock settings to internet access to firewire to slow startups. You repaired permissions before and after?
All your other programs work?
Try reloading but I don't think that's the prob.
Have you tried trashing the prefs?
Illy CS is version 11 btw.

I'm just clicking on the icon. I had try to open through an AI file but still nothing.
No, the file is not on a Network server.
It's opening directly from it's folder on the hard drive.
I did the repaired permissions before but not after, I dl the update.
Yes, all the other programs work.
How would I do the reloading and where would I find it?
I was thinking about trashing the prefs. But don't know where they will be located.

Thanks for your help.

Try repairing your permissions (you should always do that before and after loading software and updates)

Are you saying Illustator is opening when you click on it in the folder on your hard drive but not when clicking the icon on the dock? We seem to have a language gap. Sorry for misunderstanding you. It's tough sometimes in typing to get what I mean down right.

The preferences are located in Users>(your name)>Library>Preferences>Adobe Illustrator CS Settings. If you trash them the program will make a new set but you will lose any customization you may have created. I change a lot of my hotkeys so I keep a virgin copy stashed away and replace rather than trash.

To reload, you need your Illustrator CS disk.

AI CS is not opening on the dock nor on it's folder in the hard drive.
I found the preferences folder, do I just trash it then re-start the pbg4. And open up AI CS?
I have the Illustrator CS disk with me, to reload.
