InDesign Question
what in the world is the extension for InDesign docs? This question came up at work today and just wondering if anyone had the solution. I don't think its .id but I could be wrong. Or maybe InDesign is so great that it doesn't need extensions to operate.

ok...a follow up. We got some files in from some one of our clients, we'll call them Client A, that were done in InDesign. We already have a client (Client B) that uses ID for their stuff but it never has the extention on anything. Well, these files we got from Client A had the .indd extensions on them. So I go to open the files and I can't do so. I needed to update. So I did that today. I'm at 2.0.2 as we speak. Go back to open the files, and still can't. The Account Rep says that Client A uses ID CS. So I guess my question is...is there no connection from 2.0.2 to CS? No upgrade or update or anything huh? No ways around getting this file to work besides buying CS or an upgrade or whatever the case may be? The only reason this is a question because we only have 2 clients out of a gazillion that use ID and I know I've never sent anything to a printer in ID. If I can just tip-toe through without having to ask the company to buy something we rarely use, it would be great.

you may want to ask 'Client A' if they have any way to save the file in a lower version, or you could find someone with Indesign CS here, or at a print shop and ask them to do it for you.....
sorry, i'm sure that's not much help

oh no...thats actually the same thing that has come up around here..we'd need to see if they can save back for us.
I'll be they make fun of us or something cause we don't have the most up-to-date version once we tell them.

InD CS does NOT backsave to InD2. Pain in the A$$.
You can try going the pdf or eps route but they are fraught with deadly danger sometimes.
