how do i save in fireworks?

hello, i've been working on a project in fireworks now for about two hours. i've saved the project with save as, but it will only allow me to save in PNG. I've got many layers and a few frames and I'm afraid that if I exit the program all of it will be lost. Wjhen it saves as a PNG, does it just flatten and save the image like a JPG or does it keep the layer/transparency/frames as well? oh, i hope someone finds this quick as the power has gone out at my house and i'm on a laptop. thanks!

Without language, there is NO concept...

That'll be fine for saving layers as long as you don't flatten it.

For some reason .png is Firewoks' equivalent to a Photoshop .psd.
