Stupid Illustrator question

My Illustrator skills are quite rusty, but i know i used to create an objet and then copy and repeat it evenly (example 20 pixel square copied exactly 20 pixels over and repeated).

PC and Mac instructions preferred (i use both).

I know it is a question i should know but my poor brain just doesn't seem to recall.

hmm... I think this is called 'step and repeat' but I don't remember if Illy does it... I remember doing it in Quark.

I use a pc / Adobe CS, and while the method I am about to describe may take a few extra steps, I'm sure it will do until someone else pops by. [img]/DesktopModules/dotNetBB/emoticons/biggrin.gif[/img]

with your square selected, go to the 'object' menu. choose transform, then move. I like to check the 'preview' box to ensure that I'm really moving the shape where I want it to be. Enter in the distance you want to move the shape (you can use positive or negative numbers) then hit 'COPY' - not 'ok' or you will just move the existing object.

Thanks Morea. I figured out the illustrator one, now i am good to go on Photoshop as well! w00t!

hey Morea. I didn't have that option in illustrator 10 that you mentioned so i upgraded to CS, best 169.00 i ever spent <g>

I like CS a lot. I haven't been able to play around with the 3-d features much yet, but neuro has used them a bit and had some really neat results!

Im sorry for my english. Iknow a short technic for your question. You selected the square, then press the left buttom of the mouse at the same time the ALT key and drag the square to a new position, you can do manually or press at the same time too the SHIFT KEY to a constant horizontal or vertical move. Once you do this, then pres CTRL+D, that duplicate the last move than you have done. A tip (I think) Before you press CTRL +D, you can do four moves more, i think (idont sure), and the CTRL+D repeat all the moves constantley,

I think what iroc3d is describing is the Transform Again command. Holding down Option and dragging to make a duplication and then using the keyboard command Command + D to move the duplication in the same amount of space as the previous one.
