Upgrading to CS5.5 to Create Flip-Book PDF's?

Hello all,
I am running version CS3 of the Adobe Design Premium suite. One of my clients wants to have the new flip-book, interactive style PDF's. Like this: http://www.deere.com/en_US/docs/zmag...trak_zmag.html

Basically I need the page turning feature, the ability to add links, and rich media. I was told that this can be done in Adobe Acrobat X and that by upgrading to CS5.5 I could achieve these dynamic PDF's.

I haven't seen a lot on the net explaining this process in CS5 or even if it's doable. Could someone shed some light for me?

Thank you.

That feature is available in CS5 as well as CS5.5. It's in the Transitions panel, but it only creates a Flash-based document.

And yes everything you mention in your second paragraph is doable in CS5. Much of it was available in CS4.

I see. I am pretty proficient in dreamweaver, indesign, illustrator cs3. Any idea on what type of learning curve may be involved with this?

That's flash based, not PDF based, it may be created from a PDF.

I use this to do something similar to that - http://flippingbook.com/

And - the Transitions export from InDesign does not work for PDF - it only works when exporting to SWF or FLA.

Well the software I linked to does it for you.

If you can build a flash or html based website go for it.

I'm sure there's some jquery or something for page curls?

InDesign will spit out a horribly large Flash file that is awkward to edit in Flash.

Don't take that lightly - the InDesign export of Flash is HORRIBLE in the file size it creates.

I can do html and css. Flash and actionscript skills are poor at the moment. Haven't used it in a long time.

Ok, so Indesign exports horrid swf's. Got it.

Would there be heavy action scripting in order to pull this off in flash? You recommend the Flippingbook.com over doing this with Adobe?

I don't mind learning something new if using Adobe will be better in the long run, but if buying a flipbook software over Adobe would be a better and easier solution I might do that.

You export the file to PDF from InDesign.

Then you use flipping book to convert the PDF to the flipbook version.

I have downloaded that trial and the program is very sluggish compared to what I'm using at the moment - it's not bad though. More testing.
