Question Paging Tyger regarding Swift3d…

Hey Tyger,

I’m also interested in learning 3d. You mentioned about Swift3d and I think it justifies the price. Do you know of any tutorials or books out there? I found one in Amazon; it’s called Foundation Swift 3D V3 (ISBN: 1590592107).

Thanks!

Hey joe!

The foundation book is great to get you started, I would recommend getting Version 4. check this link to get a demo of Swift3dV4.

Here's some tutorials that would get you comfortable to use the program....

Erain tutorials
Swiftdev tutorials

And here's some inspiration....

Let me know if you have anymore questions, i'll be glad to help!

Thanks Tyger and sorry about the SN! I tried go back and edited the post, but somehow the subject line still said “I” instead of “Y”! To be honest I don’t know what my ultimate intentions are. However, I’ve always been a fan of 2d/3d stuff. I’m also one of those who love to learn new things. I guess for now I will call it a hobby. I will decide later if I want to pursue 3d or After Effects. I started learning AE 6 months ago. I guess it never hurts to learn something new.

no worries Joe....

I asked about your intentions because i wanted to see what you were planning. Since for now you are a hobbyist, Swift3d is a great program to learn and get you started, again considering the cost. It works great with Flash and if you visit the links provided you will see that you can pull of some pretty cool models. The only thing I would say lacks in Swift3d is the animation tools are limited and quite tedious and there is no support for bones, which would make rigging and animating alot easier if it had it.

After Effects is cool to know as well but is a totally different platform from 3d.

Anyway, good luck on what you decide to do.

Oh yeah...if you are looking for a higher end program but can't afford MAya and 3dsmax i would recommend Cinema 4d. Just look up the links provided previously. I'm currently trying to learn this program too and find it easier to learn than max and maya and it's capable of doing some quality models and renders.

Thanks again Tyger! I may look into Cinema 4d. In fact, I got a book at home, but at that time I was busy playing w/ AE.
