Create a VECTOR based emboss/bevel effect?

Hi. I'm new here, but I couldn't find any info on this using the search tool, so I'm hoping you all can give me some info.

I have a logo I RE-created for a customer in PHOTOSHOP (YUK!) because the original one appeared to be done that way. All they had was a jpg image and their are bevel/emboss effects on the type.

Come to find out they need this created as a VECTOR for billboards and other promotional items... was not told this in the beginning... argh!

I can't figure out how to recreate this logo in a VECTOR format for them. Is this even possible? I have illustrator CS (new to me) and Corel 10, willing to upgrade... I'm even open to Freehand. Is there any software out there that can do this for me WITHOUT it making use of RASTER images? I believe thats how the current Freehand works and since it wouldn't be easily scalable... I don't want to do that. I have heard of Expression 3 and it appeared that it may have worked but it is only avalable on a Mac and I'm PC, as well as it is not available anymore.

Please help, any suggestions welcome. --Thanks, Jane

Hello Jane, welcome to the forum. You will never get the range of bevel & emboss effects with a vector program that you can get with Photoshop. However Illustrator CS has some pretty good 3D effects. Try the 3D extrude & bevel in the effects menu. There is also a bevel shadow filter in the SVG filters. Good luck.
