Quark 6 pdf's

Hi

Upgrading to quark six soon. I have distiller in classic. I've been told that quark six can save print ready pdf's without the use of distiller. I want to dump 0S9 asap. Do I still need distiller. Surely q6 wont have as many options as distiller with regards to pdf output.
I will need to make high rez pdfs for print and low rez for email proofs etc.

Also what's the best way to change an A4 quark doc to an A3 or A2 doc. At the moment I am rasterising pdfs in photoshop and then scaling them up from there. Is there any other way to do this when making the pdf etc.

Thanks in advance.

I came across the same thing when I upgraded to Quark 6. I needed to make PDF's for a Magazine that we publish ads with. So just recently about a week or so ago, I was on the phone with there Graphic Artist. He's a very cool guy and were trying to figure out if I can use Quark to make my PDF's. We went through all the options and BANG! we figured it out. Acrobat 6.0 does have alot of new features like the ability to create electronic forms that submit information but to make printable PDF documents you just need Quark.

I say just upgrade you can choose to create Ulitmate Hi-Res files or Web low-Res ones. Quarks PDF output has almost all the options Distiller has and it's a built in features.

Good Luck and Welcome to OSX!

No problem man. I'm still learning about the new features myself but if I can help I will.

Ok. I'm up and running. I'm saving my pdfs from quark from the export layout as pdf (after installing laserwriter ppd etc) This seems to work fine. Is there any way to set up an output style for low rez settings and one for high rez settings. At the moment I have to adjust all the settings depending on output.

Also another q6 query. In the old versions you could double click an image and an option to open publisher popped up. Has this been removed. Was useful for finding images quickly for editing.

At least I can collect fonts for output now which is a time saver.

Thanks in advance

You have to go to quarks site and dowload verion 6.1 that bring back the double click image thing. Now saving PDF options well they stay saved once you export the file then everytime you export the file again it should work fine.

where did you find the laserwriter ppds to install? I am trying to create PDFs from Quark and they are coming out all funky - upgraded everything recently and having problems... So do I just installs some random drivers and should work? Before I had installed Adobe postscript driver but seems only for Classic and not OSX... any thoughts?
Thanks for any help!!!

Hi Kim

When I first tried to export as pdf from quark. A message came up saying that a laserwriter ppd was required. I downloaded the ppd. I'll try and find out where next time I'm in work.

Are you using the export as pdf feature or creating pdfs through the print command. Ifthe ppd issmall enough to email I could send it to you.

I have been using export as PDF feature in Q6, but have noticed that the low res files it creates are much larger than the ones I was creating using Distiller and Q4. This is a real problem. Anyone know how to create a PS file in Q6 and then run it through Distiller to make the itty-bitty PDFs we all love?
