which is more important web design or web content?
I heard lots of argument about the issue of web design and web content.House is divided into two: web design's side and web content's side. They try to argue of which of the two is more important and can attract more customers.
Can i hear side? What can you say about this? thanks a lot

Welcome to the forum.
In my humble opinion, design & content must work together to create the communication.

Without the content, there's nothing to design. Form should follow function, and the design of the site is the mediator which facilitates the best use of both.
The design isn't something that exists separately from the content; the design includes the site's content, its form and, especially, the way in which the user experiences both. Good design successfully caters to the intended function of the site, while a badly designed site fails at this task.
Which is most important, food or water? Without one, the other is worthless.

Content is more important than design.

I think it's a silly question, and the wrong question. Think about it. The best websites are the ones where the content is the design.

Chicken or egg?
Omelet.
A good website is a combination of both.

I guess I will clarify why I chose what I chose so it doesn't seem like I picking it just to be different.
Everyone knows you must have both to have a good website, that's something pretty much anyone can answer. But for the question you asked (what is more important), I believe content is more important, in SEO and usefulness.
Of course you can have a website that is so badly designed that its unusable, but even badly designed websites will be more useful than designs without content, or the right content. You wouldn't go to McDonalds' website to find information about horses (not that their site is any better than any other site). Any site created by anyone who has the ability to copy and paste the information that you're looking for into a text document and save it as an HTML, is more useful to the target than a site without the facts you're looking for.
Also, what is considered good design is subjective, facts are usually not.
A site with NO (default CSS) design is better than a site with NO content. But there's no reason you can't have both?

Balance.
Depending on what info you are delivering will dictate the website. A balance of design vs content is always needed. Successful web developers and designers know that.
(( & sounds like more of an essay question for school? ))
