What is this line around my objects??
This is a CMYK version of our logo, and now I see this orange-ish line around the black objects. But it's not everywhere - not along the left edge or bottomn of the K or bottom of the A or the bottom of the G's lower doohicky. What's the dealio??

BTW, the black K and A are single, black objects with no stroke, and the red fill is just a filled rectangle sitting behind them.
The red fill is CMYK 0 100 100 47
The black fill is CMYK is ... ah-ha! It said "100%"! ... When I change it to CMYK 100 100 100 100, it's still black and the orange line is gone.

What programme are you using? It could just be a screen preview. Do not use black 100/100/100/100 in print. Ever.

It's a display issue. For some reason monitors have a hard time transitioning from red to black. They always look funny where the two colors meet.
I'd be willing to bet it will print correctly.
But you definitely don't want the black being 100/100/100/100. That's 400% ink coverage and no print shop is going to do that.
Best bet is to make it 100% black (0/0/0/100) and set it to overprint.

I always do a 100/100/100/200. I like to run the K twice just to be sure.*
*not really

Nothing like being able to feel how thick the ink is...

Digital thermo. Which is also a good name for a band so this post could be moved.

Too bad ... I thought that was gonna be the answer to the fact that my el cheapo laser here on my desk prints black very, very lightly. Is there any reason I shouldn't do that?

If you are printing to a laser printer it would probably be okay. But you definitely wouldn't want to send it out to have it printed like that.

Is there a "standard" CMYK black that magazines use? Or do they each do their own thing?
