These aren’t exactly free, but if you can lay hands on the old books second hand, and you have a scanner, they’re a great resource for decoratives and ‘old-timey’ illustrations.

Thought I researched it at the time, but using the guidelines I always thought were correct, things are subject to the copyright laws in place at the time of publication and later changes to the law are not retroactive.
Hope I wasn’t wrong! Will definitely look into this. Fortunately the game never got uploaded so no violations yet - but hate the thought of doing it accidentally so it’s on the list.

I LOVE the Dover Books! Have quite a few from yard sales. Paid maybe a dollar or 2 for each. They give permission to use up to 10 illustrations for free, then inquire.
