With so many certifications and online courses available, it can be hard to decide which ones are truly worth the time and investment. From cloud platforms like AWS and Azure to cybersecurity, data analytics, or project management certifications—everyone’s journey in IT looks a little different.
I’m curious to know which certifications or courses have genuinely helped you grow in your IT career. Did they open new opportunities, improve your technical expertise, or help you move into a leadership role?
Let’s share our experiences so others can make more informed decisions about where to invest their time and effort.
With certifications and courses (online or in person,) whether IT or Graphic Design, what matters is the relevance to your particular situation. It’s something that might be discussed with your upper management to see what skills they would like to see you have. And maybe they’ll pay for it.
If you’re a freelancer, identify the skills you need to win the work you want to be doing and apply yourself to learning them.
Certifications just for certification sake are useless. For instance, I don’t care if someone sends a resume to me saying they are “Adobe Certified.” It means they passed the Adobe test. Yay for them. But it doesn’t translate into something useful for the real world.
