I’ve been exploring ways to incorporate creative graphic design into packaging projects and was wondering if anyone could share their thoughts or experiences on what works best. For example, how do you strike a balance between aesthetic appeal and functional packaging design?
I’ve been looking into trends and techniques while working on some ideas over at Packaging San Diego. I’d love to hear your insights on design strategies or any tips for creating standout packaging that resonates with customers.
Design strategy for packaging doesn’t really differ from design strategy for any project.
Standout packaging requires a lot of research.
Resonating with customers also requires research.
There is no one answer for all things.
The balance between packaging appeal and functional design depends on the use of the packaging. For instance, omething sitting on a store shelf after being unpacked from a bulk shipping box is totally different from something that has to actually ship in its box. The former can look pretty, the latter has to make it thru the US postal system first.
I have some experience in packaging design and the most important thing is making sure you are meeting all the FDA government regulations for the package you are designing.
Striking the right balance is key! Focus on clear branding and functionality—make sure the design enhances usability while standing out visually. Using bold colors, clean typography, and sustainable materials has worked wonders for me. Would love to hear more about your Packaging San Diego ideas!
