This is such a silly thing I am not even sure where to post it, so it goes here.
I’m working on a bible study site (I know) and we have been replacing all my placeholder stuff with “real” content. I made a quickie placeholder graphic, as a joke, for the 404 page and they LOVED it! It is now their 404 page
Is this sort of thing common? My “serious” submissions get reworked constantly, and that is normal, but how often does joke placeholder content go live?
I’ve never seen an interesting error page. For the most part it’s big black number and letters, maybe a sad face or an “OOPS!” I can say I wouldn’t be disappointed to see something like this. I like it
Getting folks to pay for it is always another story though. I do wish you luck with it.
I guess that’s the advantage of zero schooling and being completely self taught.
What happens for the most part or what accepted practices are never enter my mind. I just go at it and see what happens, often very Zen-like in my efforts. So much so I can look at things and wonder how I ever did them!
To me, that’s an advantage. No restraints and in this case - they liked it so much it is live!
As for pay… One day I’ll tell that overly long story. Suffice it to say this project is going to get me out of foreclosure and guarantee me a place to live for years. But there is a lot more to it…
I guess I may as well summarize the situation; I am about to lose my house (28 years int a 30 year mortgage) due to unemployment in my field (I’m a Chemist - ran a lab for 30 years and can’t find work). The guy who runs the bible study group is a slumlord, so I offered to give him my house for FREE, but ONLY if I get a 10 year lease at $1 a month rent, and he went for it!!
House needs so much work it’s underwater even this deep into the term, so everybody wins with this deal. I also have to keep up their sites for the duration, but I get a car too (my car was repossessed) (unemployment does not cover the bills).
Thanks muchly. It is crazy, but fortunately I am crazier! I am amazed I even thought of this trick to pay off the house. At my age, 10 years is almost enough time to figure something else out.
I actually already hinted at including a renewal clause in the lease, and they were not averse to it if things go well. Even I can cover $1 a month rent!! Utilities are tricky, but I should be able to manage.
And if I have a landlord they’ll have to fix the plumbing (and they know about it too, so it’s not a surprise). I saved myself from having to leave the house despite losing it, and with the woman I love having health troubles, that is a huge big deal!
