Applying Grain or Pointalize

Hi there! Was hoping for some help troubleshooting.

When I try and follow this tutorial and apply a grain or pointalize texture, my effects have a rainbow and black kind of color instead of just black and white.

Here’s the tut I was following:

I didn’t watch the entire video, but here’s one way to avoid all the colors.

Do you think AI is just glitching out? Seems weird that it’s giving me colored grain.

I don’t think so. There are many different effects settings from which to choose. When I first tried it, I got the same results as you. My screen capture shows the settings I eventually found.
