I’m new to graphic design and typography, so this might be a basic question.
I was looking around online and found a website https://letrasbonitas.com.es that provides fonts that i can even copy and paste. here are some examples
𝕱𝖔𝖓𝖙
Բ๏กՇ
ꄘꄲꋊ꓄
ʄօռȶ
Can anyone tell me what these styles are called? Are they actual fonts?
Although fonts can come in similar styles, these are not actual fonts. Letras Bonitas converts plain text into loads of font styles to be copy and pasted for use elsewhere. As it’s a copy and paste thing, one can’t type with it. Fonts come in downloadable files so they can be used in software to type lots of text using that font.
If you’re looking for fonts in various styles, here are some sites with free fonts to check out: Fontalicious (Free for personal use only) Tunera Type Foundry
I don’t know what you mean by “actual fonts.” They’re not installable on your computer like a typical TrueType or OpenType font file, if that’s what you mean.
Typeface— A specific design of a complete set of glyphs is called a typeface. Helvetica, Times Roman, and Bodoni are examples of typefaces. The same typeface design can come in various weights, italics, widths, and styles.
Font — The collection of glyphs that make up a weight or style of a typeface. The word font is often confused with typeface. For example, Helvetica is a typeface, but Helvetica Bold and Helvetica Light are fonts within the Helvetica typeface family.
In practice, most people no longer distinguish between the words typeface and font, and use them interchangeably. Historically, there’s an important difference, but you’re not likely interested in that.
I figured the first one was probably blackletter, but I wasn’t sure about the others. Calling them display styles seems like a reasonable way to classify them since they’re mainly decorative rather than something you’d use for body text.
