9"x12", graphite on smooth 100 lb / 270 gsm Bristol paper using a variety of B-range pencils. I need to spend more time drawing.
For a hard paper with very little tooth, I was able to get the graphite pencils darker than expected. I probably hurried through his jacket too fast, but I was concentrating on his face.
Wow, very impressive. You said you hurried through his jacket. To me, this gives the effect that the jacket is “out of focus” which puts more emphasis on the face. Did you have a reference photo you were working off of?
Yeah, I was looking for something I wanted to draw and found one on Pinterest. I’d really like to start using my own photo references, but I’m not much of a photographer.
