Cut the compound path in InDesign

Dear Members,

I am new to InDesign, whatever i am about to show below i did it in 3-4 hours with learning then and there using YouTube. However, i have a problem over there.

I have made a few shapes and made all of them as a compound path and inserted an image. It turned out beautifully. However, as part my design i want to cut out everything left of redline (please see the picture).

So, please help me in how to achieve that, my idea is to use the Scissors option to cut it out. However, it is not working or i might be using it in the wrong way. So, please give me more ideas to correct my ideas.

As i have mentioned before i have only one day’s experience in InDesign. I am just creating it for my own company. So, please help me.

Step 1. Draw a path around the compound path that represents what you want left over.

Step 2. Select both the newly completed shape and the compound path and press the “intersect” button on the pathfinder palette.
step-2
Step 3. You’ll need to re-place the image into the new compound path.
