We’ve always used 5K lighting to color correct.
Pantone sends out an email today that D65 is The Standard for color correcting.
I’ve only ever used 65K when using warm white LEDs as a backlight. And the number of times that’s happened I can count on one hand cuz it was an industry transition. Nowadays our lightboxes are Warm/Cool so can be dialed in.
Otherwise, it’s just the 5K lightbooth….
What do you all use?
Working in packaging design, I primarily care about how it looks under retail store lights. We have a light booth that has ‘store’ settings that range around 4k (most grocery stores) and 4.5k (target/pharmacy), we’ll make choices primarily viewing between those.
I don’t even think our booth goes up to 6.5k haha
Isn’t 6500K (D65) the closest approximation to midday sunlight, with 5000K more akin to morning or afternoon sunlight? If I’m not mistaken, most default settings on monitors and phone screens are set to D65, so I suppose it’s becoming something of a standard.
