Door knocking with a portfolio booklet

Hello, I am a recent graphic design graduate. I am in the process of looking for a job right now. There are no job offers currently in my city for a junior graphic designer.
I created a portfolio booklet and I’m about to get a few copies printed.
Is door knocking and introducing myself in-person an okay way to look for a graphic design job? Even if it’s just to get my name out there?

If not, what other strategy would you recommend?

That’s what I did 25 years ago. Got the Yellow Pages and looked up print/design companies in the area within walking distance/public transport - sent my CV and Portfolio to them in the post, printed out 50 copies, signed a cover letter, and posted them.

Also door knocking is useful.
Send emails.
Go to networking events/business events in the area.

Go for it. I think that’s a great idea. Way more proactive than blindly sending out emails or filling in web forms.

We hired our first marketing person that way.
She walked in with a great portfolio straight out of trade school (design/print)
Hired on the spot.

Good Point of View.

I would say not only door knocking. But in YouTube, there is a good video on how to get a job as a Graphic Designer look for : " How To Get Your 1st Graphic Design Job" by Philip VanDusen.

I hope this helps !
