Finding clients

Hey, I’m Geethu! I’m a brand and packaging designer . Can anyone share some effective tips for finding clients? Would love to hear your thoughts!

The best way to find clients is to be proactive. Start by emailing the businesses you want to work with. Introduce yourself, explain what you can do for them, and include a link to your portfolio so they can see your work.

Follow up with a phone call to make it more personal and, if possible arrange a meeting or drop by in person. People are more likely to work with someone they’ve spoken to or met personally. Bring some samples, business cards, and things like to the meeting so they have some keepsakes from the meeting and makes you more memorable.

If you can’t meet in person, send a letter in the post, include it written on your stationery, include business card and rates etc.

Also, make sure you have a professional website that shows off your portfolio, explains your services, and makes it easy for clients to contact you.

Thank you so much for your insights

You find clients through a strategic mix of marketing communication potentially including but not limited to: formal networking events, informal networking, trade organizations, trade shows, public relations, branding, a web presence, a social media presence, traditional advertising (potentially including but not limited to direct mail, broadcast, and out of home), online advertising, SEO, cold calling, warm calling, third party websites, and referrals. Oh, and you have to do good work.

Look at local opportunities. All my clients are local. I can meet with them in person, take them out to lunch, tour their facility. The result is that they feel like I know them and understand what they are trying to do. The goal isn’t just to find clients, but to find good clients, ones who need regular services. I don’t make money on creating a single logo for someone who then disappears. I make it when they have continuing design needs and I’m invoicing on a regular basis.

I’m in Los Angeles, and here, all businesses are required to register with the government and those lists are made public. If you have something like that in your location, that might be a good place to start. New businesses are more likely to need comprehensive design services.

Oh, that’s great! However, since I’m from India, my area doesn’t have many industries or businesses that would typically require branding or print design services. Most of the businesses here are shops and jewelery’s , and they generally don’t invest much in professional brand design or similar services. Because of this, I need to focus on finding clients online, where I can connect with a broader audience
