I have an issue with FontForge, im trying to import czech characters (like č, ř, ě, etc.) into font Crayawn for my translation project. So I drawn all the letters I needed, and imported it into FF, but it wont let me “fully save”, meaning that I can save the .ttf/.otf file, but I cant open it, the error message says “the requested file is not a valid font file”
And I didn’t find solution to that yet :c
What am I doing wrong? Does anyone know how to solve this?
I design typefaces as a side project in my spare time. I don’t use FontForge, though. The few times I’ve tried it, it hasn’t worked well on my Mac, so I’ve never pursued it. Instead, I use Glyphs and FontLab, but both cost money, whereas FontForge is free.
There are thousands of things that can go wrong in building a font and cause it to fail. What the problem might be with your font is impossible to say without opening it and taking a look. If you want to send me the .otf or .ttf file, I’ll try to open it in Glyphs or FontLab to see if I can spot the problem.

There’s a copyright on that font, but it looks like it’s been released as open source, so I’m guessing it’s OK to modify it.
It has to be the most poorly built font I’ve ever encountered: self-intersecting paths, too many anchor points on a path, and glyph names containing illegal characters. I’m guessing that FontForge didn’t check for these things, but I’m uncertain about that.
Neither Glyphs nor FontLab would open the .ttf file, so I opened it in FontForge and exported it as a .ufo file, which Glyphs did manage to open.
I fixed the problems keeping it from opening or installing, but I could not even begin to fix the tens of thousands of path outline problems. If there was ever a font that would crash a an output device RIP, this font is it.
Anyway, I’ve gone ahead and added the Czech glyphs and uploaded a .ttf to

I dont know what the other issues are, the paths and anchor points etc. :o I only added the cz letters
