Hawaii’s Kilauea Volcano

This doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. It’s developed several fissures and it spewing tons of lava. Many homes have been lost and thousands have been evacuated. I’m in awe of how scary and eerily beautiful it can be all at the same time.

Beautiful and scary, yes. It is a reminder of how powerful nature can be and puts into perspective our little human troubles.
I play online with people in Hawaii and no-one has heard from them in a few weeks. Whoever you are, wherever you live, sometimes just getting by is a matter of life or death.

This whole thing is really fascinating, but completely tragic for those affected by it.

I was there about four years ago, and at the time, I was puzzled why anyone would build their homes on the slopes of an active volcano. It’s an absolute paradise — at least until the ground cracks open and the Earth’s molten innards begin spewing out in one’s backyard.
