How to freeze a display?

So am using the extend display functionality to watch netflix on my monitor, and work on my laptop. The thing is whenever I change tabs on my laptop, the monitor also changes tabs. How do I get the monitor to be frozen on netflix and not mimic my tab movements?

Or basically, whichever OS, turn off Mirroring under Displays or Monitors.
