Seems you’re demoing a can opener at a chefs’ convention, as most of us are seasoned graphic designers who’ve been generating mockups for years, often creating custom solutions tailored to each project. Personally, I use a mix of Photoshop, Illustrator, and sometimes even InDesign when needed. There’s no shortage of control when doing it yourself, especially when you want to get everything pixel-perfect.
That said, I can absolutely see the value of something like Mockupgen for newer designers or for those in a hurry who need a clean, quick output without all the technical fuss. A fast, no-signup, no-paywall tool is refreshing in a sea of overcomplicated or locked-down platforms. And I like that you’re starting with T-shirt mockups that’s a massive use case for freelancers and print-on-demand sellers.
Still, it’s worth noting that most print-on-demand services like Printful or Redbubble already include built-in mockup previews. So for people working within those ecosystems, there’s often no real need to look elsewhere. And when you’re working professionally, you often want more control over lighting, perspective, and branding elements which is why tools like Boxshot or Origami come into play, especially for packaging or more complex presentations.
But fair play to you for putting something out there. If it keeps evolving, adds more product types, and lets users tweak things beyond the basics, I could definitely see it being bookmarked as a quick mockup solution. Keep pushing it forward and maybe think about adding flat lays, lifestyle scenes, or layered PSD exports down the line.
Who knows, if you pitch it to the right crowd as an API or offer a white-label solution, you might end up making more from the backend than from the front-facing tool itself. Plenty of platforms out there are crying out for something quick, clean and embeddable. Even just offering it as a plug-in for Shopify or Etsy sellers could open doors. Not every user wants to wrestle with design software, so if you can make it effortless and brandable for them, you’re in a strong position.
Good luck with the project.
