Have to throw a wrench in here: Can one claim it’s one’s creation?
I suppose it’s the lawmakers’ problem.
Well …
ChatGPT at least copied the wording right. NightCafe just writes what it wants lol ![]()
ChatGPT:
NightCafe:
I suppose resolution-independent vector versions are no longer needed, nor is the ability to create spot color versions. Clients get exactly what they want, with no annoying designers to tell them otherwise. Besides, what they don’t know won’t hurt them — at least until the mess they create comes back to bite them on the butt.
I’m retiring out of this field at exactly the right time.
It’s more likely the bottom feeders and crowd sourcing contests sites that will feel it most.
Apart from the generative fill in Photoshop, I’m completely ignorant on AI. Can it create usable vector versions of these logos?
Not yet. As I understand it, there are still some limitations that can’t yet be overcome. (I asked Google’s Gemini.
)
AI can write perfect PostScript, but it doesn’t know how to properly construct the files, layer the objects, determine when precision is needed or not, where to position the handles, or separate one shape from the next to enable subsequent deconstruction of the logo for adding bling or simplifying for spot colors, among other things. It’s still not much better than the auto-trace feature in Photoshop.
I suspect another problem is that vector art is a niche technology used by professionals, whereas raster art will satisfy the demands of the average person. In other words, there isn’t a strong enough demand for vector art to justify solving the technical hurdles. I’m pretty certain it’s coming, though.
It’s definitely coming, and vectorizing could be one of the least valuable and lowest entry barriers tasks in the design world. Any person interested enough in design knows how to auto-trace an image and provide a “service” around it.
The value in logo design now will reside in your ability to discern and strategize what logo should the business have compared to the creation of the logo itself. And I’m even unsure how much time is left for even that strategy part to be soon replaced or be “good enough” for clients with AI.
It’ fu***ing sucks, and I feel like a madman right now for going full into logo design this year. I trust my vision, since so many will be discouraged by AI there could be potential in being so hyperfocused in logo design that I could stand out because of it. But the doubt is ever so looming…
