Indesign: Importing Workspace

so i got a new computer and am trying to import my indesign workspace (from previous computer…which i saved). i’m going to File, User Settings, Import User Settings, then i get this message:

image

what the heck!! i have copied my workspace to the correct folder, but it just doesn’t show up in the workspace list…!!

anyone have fix? so frustrating! i would have taken a screen shot beforehand had i known this wouldn’t work…but its always worked in the past. ugh.

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

(ps i don’t have access to the old computer, otherwise i would go back and take a screen shot…)

navigate in the Finder to: Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version X/ Workspaces

If you don’t see Library you have hold down option or alt or some nonsense.

Windows
Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe*InDesign* \Version XX.0\en_US*Workspaces* \

thanks.

yes, that’s were i copied my old workspace to. however, it doesn’t appear in Indesign under the workplaces option…it just doesn’t show up. that’s the issue… :-\

its a known issue in indesign support forums, but i was hoping someone had a work-around for this…

Import user settings is a new feature and you’d have to have used Export User Settings first.
Then you can import them.
You will get the error because you’re selecting your workspace to import and that’s not the right filetype.

The workspace file is a different file format and needs to be in the correct folder on your computer to be seen in InDesign.

For Windows I have this location
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\Version XX.0\en_GB\Workspaces

I made a test one here to demonstrate
It should be an XML file

There’s not other way to do this - if you don’t have the Workspace saved as an XML file it won’t work in this location.

If you do and it’s not showing up - try this
Try resetting your preferences:

Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select ‘Yes’ on this dialog.

If it’s not working you’ll have to share your
InDesign version and number
Your OS and specs

And some screenshots to help understand what’s going on.
