I’m stuck on OSX Monterey 12.7.6 until it dies on me. I’m not willing to give up my beloved 27” iMac and am not going to invest in a new setup until I’m absolutely forced to (and yes, that day IS approaching). Unfortunately, Creative Cloud 2025 is getting really glitchy and I want to roll back to 2024.
Before I reach out to Adobe to hopefully obtain these files–because legacy install only goes back a year on the app–I want to make sure I have my KYS and Workspace files salvaged. The Photoshop workspace file is .psw and InDesign is .xml. But my Illustrator saved workspace file shows no extension, and simply says “Simple Text Document.” Just make 100% sure this IS my saved Workspace file when I need it?
Yes — that sounds right, and don’t add an extension to it. Illustrator is the odd one out here: Photoshop saves a .psw and InDesign saves an .xml, but Illustrator workspace files in the Workspaces folder have no extension at all, and macOS reports them as Simple Text because inside they are basically plain text / XML-style data.
What I’d do before rolling back: copy the whole Workspaces folder, not just that one file, plus your .kys keyboard shortcuts, somewhere outside the Adobe folders — a zip on another drive is ideal. After you install the 2024 version, quit Illustrator, then drop the file, exactly as named and still extensionless, into the 2024 version’s Workspaces folder. The version number in that Preferences path will be different, so don’t replace the whole Preferences folder. Launch Illustrator and check it appears under Window > Workspace before you delete anything from 2025. Most panel layouts carry over fine, but that quick test saves panic later.
