I am currently working on designing a website for a school assignment and am needing some feedback on my 3 mockups I have come up with so far. Any feedback anyone has would be so highly appreciated. I will list below the purpose, intended end-users and implications I have chosen for my website.
Purpose of website:
I have chosen for my design to be a discussion platform website for people to be able to both find and suggest entertainment media that is in a similar vein to something they have previously watched/read/listened to and enjoyed. People can get as specific or particular about what it is they want to have similarity to the entertainment media they previously enjoyed as they would like, ranging from a broad genre they like to a unique dynamic between two characters they liked.
End users:
I imagine this website would be a great place for anyone who either works in entertainment media or simply enjoys whatever type of entertainment media it is they enjoy. Such as filmmakers, authors, musicians, film buffs, readers, gamers or music enthusiasts. It would be a perfect place for anyone who is interested in storytelling, world building and writing.
Implications of website:
Social
I have chosen this implication as the website will have content relevant to any end user’s desires no matter the genre or type of entertainment media they are interested in. I plan on making the website suitable for the intended audience by designing it in a way that makes it easy to discuss and debate the entertainment media in question. I hope it will have a positive impact and serve entertainment value for the same reason, being able to speak and connect with like-minded people with a similar taste in entertainment as you.
Functionality
I have chosen this implication as I intend for the website to be as clear and concise to navigate as possible so users can achieve their desired outcome. I plan on having a discussions section where people can discuss and debate the suggested pieces of media so the original poster of the request can learn more about how/whether it fits their desired outcome. It will be primarily a text only website aside from the graphics that contain and display the text, however I plan on including a feature where users can input an image of the media they are suggesting, possibly connecting to a search engine like how Microsoft Publisher does with Bing. This will help the original posters of the request be able to find and recognise the media they were suggested as they will be able to see the album, TV series, movie, video game or book cover.
Aesthetics
I have chosen this implication as I enjoy the aesthetics process of designing a website. I am planning on having a web or tree-like design to the website, in an open scrolling format inspired by the website everynoise.com. There will be categorised filters to find requests in the type of entertainment media and genre you are looking for. I envision the suggestions will attach to the requests in a bubble design, reminiscent of the tree diagram a family tree would use, displaying the rating other people have given the suggestions using the 5-star system and the number of comments people have left in the discussion forum of the suggestion. When you click on an individual suggestion it will take you to a different page displaying only that suggestion and the request it was made from, as well as displaying the statistics of the ratings more in depth and the discussions forum attached to the suggestion. Inside the request and suggestion “bubbles” would be the chosen cover image for the media being referred to and above the request and suggestion bubbles would be the chosen displayed username of the poster.
Here are some questions to I am hoping to get some feedback on:
a) Has the purpose been met?
b) Have the needs of the end-users have been met?
c) Is the design is presented clearly?
d) Is the design is aesthetically pleasing?
e) Do the colours work?
f) Does the layout work?
