anyone who know the name of this font?
I doubt there will be any matches for this. I am sure it was done by hand as a one off creation for the movie poster. There are a few modern day fonts that have similar properties if that is all you are looking for. But if you want exact, I think you will need to re-draw it.

That’s a nice-looking typeface. It deserves to have a modern digital version made. I wonder if there are other samples of it around or if it was a one-off creation by Samuel Hyde Harris for the poster.
Where they don’t have the exact font - and probably wasn’t a font as pointed out - there are certain characteristics that are similar but not the same as the poster.

Also found out the poster was created by Sam Hyde Harris - and his work is stored at the Smithsonian - so you might be able to contact them to see if they have an information on record.
I’ve contacted institutes and things like that before, one place even made a photograph from a glass plate before, for free! All they wanted was credit in the book.
It never hurts to ask.
