RIP: The Necrology Thread

CNN put together a nice piece on the life and times of John. I can’t even imagine what he went through after being shot down. He devoted his life to his country. I’ve always had an enormous amount of respect for this man.

I was just heading here to post :frowning: RIP Burt

Wow, am I ever getting old! He was 82?

I first remember Burt Reynolds when he played the part of the young blacksmith, Quint, on the old (ancient) Gunsmoke television show back sometime in the Pleistocene era.

Oh, boy. It looks like I’m not the only one who’s fooled. :scream:

I was on the BBC website and it was listed as their most read story for the day, so I just assumed it must be new. I didn’t notice the date. Geech!

Hey, I also read where Lincoln was assassinated. Anybody else heard rumors about that one?

LOL B . … don’t feel bad … I’ve gotten fooled a time or two myself

Since we are talking about Gene Wilder I’m reminded of how so many were so glad he would be with his beloved Gilda again. While they were married at her the time of her sad passing he since married the woman he was with the rest of his life. He was with her the longest and was even with his first two wives longer than he was with Gilda. I just found it funny how people romanticize other peoples lives lol. I loved Gilda and was also very sad she died of cancer … but what a slap in the face to his wife to hear “finally he can be with his true love again” Geez people are loons.

RIP Stan :frowning:

Oh man. That sucks. Stan was a true legend. He was surrounded by other talented people, and between them they had a huge impact on the cultural landscape. RIP indeed.

Excelsior!

Stan Lee was a hero to many of us, and it may be some time before the impact of what he did is properly assessed. He wasn’t the only one, but he was the most successful at bringing comics from something for children (which is remembered fondly but less often) to something for teenagers. Teenage heroes stay with us and are more likely to be followed into adulthood. Pushing 60 I am not embarrassed to pay tribute to a man who wrote comics and that is his legacy and his greatest achievement.

Not lost, but gone before. RIP Stan

Roy Clark has passed. He was a country music legend. I loved Hee Haw as a kid. Roy was 85 and had complications from pneumonia :frowning: RIP Roy

His skill level was far beyond the requirements of typical country/western:

“The great William Goldman, my dear friend of 40 years, passed away this morning at the age of 87. All he did in the same career was write “The Princess Bride” and “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and the screenplay for “All the President’s Men.” And that is the short list.”
