Royal Albert Hall Branding Gets Another Refresh

What do you guys think? I was shocked first but now I think the 2025 arch font works.

Sorry for possible color inaccuracies. I’m on the couch with iPad and online conversions :joy:

The new logo is interesting, and I like how they’ve used a color-first approach while creating an equally interesting B&W version. My only reservation is wondering whether the Royal Albert Hall logo should have a modern look. I’m leaning toward thinking the designers have achieved a nice balance.

I think all three iterations are nice and fit their time. While I like the 2025 refresh in general, I do think the type is a little big and that the whole lockup would look a bit more balanced if the type came down in size just a bit. Basically, the mark needs an overshoot.

Yes, I agree with you. In addition, the designer ignored a typography rule of thumb, which your adjustment fixed. That rule is to refrain from aligning the type with the extreme edge of a curve. Instead, visually align it by pulling in the type just a bit, so that the edge of the curve extends or overshoots slightly beyond where a geometric alignment would be.

There’s one other thing that’s just a little bit bothersome with the type. The strokes in the letters are slightly heavier than the other lines in the logo. If they had used a variable font, the designer could have reduced the strokes just enough to make them match.
