The US Mint in Philadelphia struck the final circulating penny today after 238 years of production for American currency. Wednesday November 12th, 2025 will mark the official end of the one cent coin.

Last year, I took all the pennies I had tossed into a bucket since the 1980s. The bucket finally began overflowing, so I took them to the bank and cashed them in for nearly $80.00
I finally stopped using coins or paper currency in favor of credit and debit cards, so now I’m using the bucket for something else.
It’s probably time to retire the nickel, too.
