Self-created contract. Should I be scared?

I’ve seen graphic design contract templates for sale online for hundreds of dollars.
I’ve been advised more than once that may be too pricey.
I’ve been advised to build a contract by doing research and using helpful resources such as the Graphic Artists Guild Handbook.
I believe I have all necessary pieces.

However, I DO NOT plan to have a lawyer review my contract. I have been told that this is an unnecessary expense (a pricey one too). I’m told contracts, regardless of who makes them, are legally binding as long as certain criteria are met.
Thoughts?
