You’re right that Illustrator’s blend tool does not create that line work exactly. While the blend tool is pretty powerful in Illustrator, it has it’s faults. I wish that Illustrator had something similar to how Adobe Animate uses “shape hints” for shape tweening. While they are not the same thing, if you could add shape hints to two items you are blending in Illustrator, you’d have more control over how they blend.
