What the heck are COBs?

I just read a job post for an Associate Art Director. However, in the post it mentions supporting the art directors with graphics for COBs. Does anyone know what COB stands for?

Close Of Business, maybe, or perhaps, Cheap Old Bastards.

It’s sort of a pet peeve of mine when people can’t be bothered to write out words instead of resorting to obscure, little-known initials that mean nothing to most anyone else. Common lingo in the industry, like RGB or PPI is fine, but COB? I’ve never heard of it.

I believe the acronym is for Cut Out Background (e.g. remove the background by making it transparent or adding a clipping path).

They are also a type of digital media screen (Chip-on-board.) Supposed to be better.

Aahh. You might be right. I never thought of that one.

I hate it when they do that.

A drummer would say COB means “chrome over brass”.

This can turn into a creative competition.

My take is Chairman of the Board or, my favourite, Case of Beer.

Hmm – Seems like the latter fits the bill.

No one’s posted the obvious.
These are pretty designerly
