Where can I get free images?

I am working on another graphic design project. this is a volunteer graphic designer job. My client is a volunteer-run, unincorporated not for profit organization.

I want to do things the right way and I don’t want to misuse an image. I should describe how I will use the images. The graphic design work will be displayed on social media, such as facebook and twitter.

Should I be saying"Free" Images or something else. I basically don’t want to pay a fee

Thanks so much for the links. They have been very helpful. I think I prefer pixabay. because it has drop down for vectors and illustrations.

I read your thread about “Unsplash is being acquired by Getty Images”. Is pixabay and pexels acquried by anyone? I am noticing that pixabay as ads for istockphotos and displays their stocks images.

Also ,I think I read that istockphotos is part of getty. Man, getty is getting around. they are no joke

I don’t know who owns Pixabay. I’m assuming the iStock ads are how the site makes enough money to pay the bills since they don’t charge for their photos. I’ve thought it was a little strange that the commercial stock agencies advertise on the very sites that are undercutting their business models, but I suppose it makes sense for them to do so. And yes, iStock is owned by Getty.

Yes, the freestock sites show ads and often stock art from other stock sites.
One of them even devotes the top line of images returned to your search query.
It has annoyed me on occasion where I click on a really good image and it takes me to Shutterstock.
That does sorta say something about the quality of the free stock…
