I recently joined and would love some feedback on my portfolio. I’ve been working professionally for about 10 years, mainly in industrial/product visualization, but I’m looking to grow and potentially pivot into stronger creative roles.
I feel like I’ve hit a plateau and want to make sure my portfolio is competitive.
Thanks for the feedback.
You’re obviously very talented in 3d work, so yes, you’re certainly competitive.
However, you didn’t mention what you want to do next. You mentioned “stronger creative roles,” but what does that mean: a promotion, a shift away from industrial/product 3d work into a more creative area, such as advertising, film, long-form animation, or a shift into a creative field that is completely different? Are you currently working for yourself, or are you an employee somewhere?
You’ve worked yourself into a nice niche and gotten very good at it, so I’ve got to assume that you want to take advantage of that expertise and not shift out too far.
I don’t know your current position, but after ten years, yeah, it’s typically time for new challenges that build upon those you’ve already developed. At least that’s how it’s always worked with me. Ten years is sort of a sweet spot where you’ve learned the ropes but haven’t yet gotten too bored, stale, or burned out.
So, yes, I think your work and experience make you very competitive, at least in 3d work.
I have one minor suggestion about your portfolio UI. The top navigation menu is red on gray. There’s not much contrast in the values; squint your eyes and the menu disappears. It might work better if you used a darker red or white. Other than that, I think your portfolio is ready to go.
I agree with @Just-B on both accounts — your work looks great, and the top navigation bar needs to change color. I don’t think either the bronze / gold logo nor the orange type look good on the medium gray background.
