How does one go about creating a vector doodle like this? It looks solid but still hand drawn?Group 786

You could hand draw it - then use LiveTrace in Illustrator (what it was designed for).
You could use a Wacom Tablet.
You could draw it with the pen tool or using the pencil tool in Illustrator.

@Smurf2 Do you have any tips for using a pen tool on Illustrator? Been struggling with it.

Other than the thousands of hits on google search?

When I want something which looks hand drawn I draw it by hand ! … Simples !

Let me explain. I have an E-ink tablet, mine is the reMarkable Paper Pro. When I have a drawing on paper I can then secure it to the front of the tablet with those tacky dots you can get for sticking posters to walls at the corners and draw over the drawing with the pen of the tablet. Like using tracing paper. I can set it up so the tablet updates the computer in real time so I can also see the drawing on the computer in real time and fill in any missing lines.

The colours on the tablet are washed out but they become vibrant on the computer, this is a limitation of the e-ink technology.

You have to make sure the paper is tight.

When finished I export the drawing to a file on the computer and import it to Inkscape or Scribus or whatever.

This also works for tracing other peoples drawings or photos or whatever.

A clarification, the previous post only applies to copying something from paper to a drawing on a computer. If I want to draw something freehand I would just draw it on the e-ink tablet without drawing it on paper first.

Drawing on my e-ink tablet feels just like drawing on paper.

You can use vector tools like Illustrator or Procreate’s vector brushes for that hand-drawn feel. If you just want to doodle freely and have fun, check out Getadoodle—perfect for quick sketches and creative ideas! :art::pencil2:
