Hi,
I’m completely new to designing and I just did something and came up with this.
I know it’s not usable like this, it’s more like a concept.
What can be improved?
For improving, I’d highly suggest stepping away from the computer and putting some time into learning about drawing. I highly recommend a book called Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards.
As for this being “graphic design,” it is not. It is an illustration.
Everyone has to start somewhere, and if you’re interested, I suppose a Kraken-like monster is as good of a place as any.
But if you are seriously interested in learning to draw, I’d also suggest what PrintDriver mentioned: shut down the computer, pick up a set of art pencils and a sketch pad, then begin drawing using the principles spelled out in the book he mentioned.
There are no green monsters in that book, but you can always come back to those later on.
