I’d love to know how this strikes people. All feedback welcome!
Is this just a rough idea, or are you thinking it’s a finished logo? As an idea, it’s OK, but the dog and the person aren’t drawn very well.
Actually if the purpose it to be more abstract it’s quite decent. I would suggest to make it even more abstarct, so the decision to follow this path would be more clear. For example make all corners rounded.
You should balance better the logomark and the type better.
It reminds me of a well-known painting, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.
I just can’t get any closer than that.

Yes! I was inspired by the cutout art by Matisse!
It is meant to be in the style of Matisse paper cutout collages.
It is meant to be abstract.
Seeing that its geared towards “pets”, why only show a dog?
I see what you’re going for with the Matisse-inspired cutouts and abstract collage style, and I get that it’s meant to be in that spirit, but intention doesn’t always equal execution. Shoulda, woulda, coulda it just doesn’t quite land for me as a true reflection of that style.
Where there are issues with the illustration itself, but there is also a mismatch between the message and the medium.
The business is Pet Photography, yet there’s no visual cue of photography; no camera, lens, frame, or even a sense of image-making. Without context, the dog jumping on/attacking the human could easily suggest something like ‘Beware of the Dog’ or ‘Kindred Spirits Guard Dogs’ or a generic pet care service.
The wording hierarchy compounds this “Kindred Spirit” takes stage, while “Pet Photography,” the actual service being offered, is relegated to small, easy-to-miss text at the bottom. It doesn’t communicate “photography” at a glance and that’s a problem for a logo.
Your target audience is pet owners, not art historians.
Matisse’s cutouts made sense within the context of fine art, and especially Fauvism. Your logo lacks that context, and I’m afraid most people will see it as a poorly drawn person with a dog.
I kept looking for something in the negative space
Keep looking, it’s there, once you see it you can’t unsee it!
