Wow. Makes me think of old times … the development of PostScript and laser printers spawning the desktop publishing industry. Funny, you never hear of “desktop publishing” any more, but I remember subscribing to Desktop Publishing magazine back in the early 90s. We’re probably living through a similar revolution today with AI.

Jimmy Buffett Has Died at the Age of 76. We all know him from his song Margaritaville. I was much more fond of Come Monday.
But, Jimmy turned Margaritaville into a billion dollar empire with restaurants, casinos, concert tours, retirement communities, best-selling books and even a musical. Not too shabby for a guy who was once so broke he couldn’t pay his rent. RIP Jimmy :purple_heart:

Come Monday is one of my favorite songs.

In addition to Buffett, former Dire Straits guitarist, Jack Sonni, has died.

If that weren’t enough today, Bill Richardson, the former governor of New Mexico, U.S. congressman, U.N. ambassador, 2008 presidential candidate, and former U.S. Secretary of Energy, has died.

I just heard David McCallum has passed at 90. The younger crowd will remember him from ‘NCIS’, but I can remember him as secret agent Illya Kuryakin in ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E’. RIP Ducky

A sad loss. I remember the first time he popped up in NCIS. I could hardly believe it but he will always be Illya Kuriakin to me.

Aww … he was such a great actor. I loved him in the Doctor Who Christmas Special several years ago.:purple_heart:

So much anger about this right now - this feels like a death …

The news media should make a pact not to publish this creep’s name or photo and no information about him. Take him to court as John Doe (or whatever the UK equivalent is.) A-holes do this stuff for the notoriety. It has to stop.

My wife pointed out this morning that Dumbledore, Snape, and Hagrid have all passed but McGonagall is still kicking.

Don’t miss her in “Tea with the Dames” (2018), which was a delightful documentary. I got on it mainly on account of Eileen Atkins. But still …

Yesterday, I read about the teenage kid cutting down the 300-year-old Sycamore Gap tree. I can’t explain exactly why, but I’ve felt sad and more than a little angry about this in a way that’s way out of proportion to a famous tree being lost. Something about the sheer senselessness of some selfish fool destroying something so beautiful and unique really upsets me.

I hope arborists will try to root clones from portions of the tree and replant them at Hadrian’s wall and, for that matter, in multiple locations across England.

She should have retired several years ago and certainly when it became obvious to everyone that she was no longer physically or mentally capable of fulfilling her role as a US senator.

Absolutely. I hate sounding harsh and this isn’t a bash at one party or another … there needs to be age limits. For ALL positions. If death is the only way for new blood … there is something horribly wrong.

Aww :frowning:
