The First Hi!

Hi there! My name is Ukkasha,
I’m a self-taught graphic designer, well yeah everyone is just the same, like taught themselves, although I didn’t go to any design schools or diploma colleges, well, YouTube is kinda my teacher! I also learned that online forums are supportive of people like me.
I just wanted to say hi! Well, yeah, thank you for having me here!

Hey Ukkasha, thanks for the intro. Look, YouTube can be a fun starting point that draws you in with flashy tricks. But here’s the thing, much of what’s on there is designed to grab your attention rather than give you solid, structured learning. Many channels lean on clickbait tactics, using catchy titles and dramatic thumbnails to rack up views. This often means the content is more about the spectacle than about rigorous, well-researched education.

When you’re learning something as detailed as graphic design, structure matters.

A proper course or a well-edited textbook provides a logical progression and ensures the advice is vetted by experts.

In contrast, on YouTube, you might stumble across quick tips that look great in a 10-minute video but fall apart when you try to apply them in a real project. Plus, some of the advice can be off the mark or even downright misleading, because it isn’t always backed by the kind of scrutiny you’d find in traditional educational settings.

Now, don’t get me wrong, self-teaching is brilliant and many creative pros have built successful careers this way. But it pays to be sceptical. When advice comes wrapped in a flashy package, dig a little deeper. Cross-check what you learn with other sources, and if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

In short, while YouTube might give you the spark of inspiration, relying solely on it for your education can leave you with gaps. Combining it with more structured, traditional methods might just be the best of both worlds.

I’d strongly suggest you start some sort of formal education with an accredited educator, and/or an internship/junior position at a design company.

Good luck
