Trifold Brochure needs eyes

I suppose it’s possible that someone somewhere needs the tick marks inside the bleed to save paper or whatever. Why they make it the default instead of optional is what really puzzles me.

I can’t imagine that in all these years it hasn’t occurred to Adobe that this might not be the best default behavior.

My guess is that most designers don’t even bother changing the settings (or the resample or compression settings), thinking that Adobe knows what they’re doing or they wouldn’t have set it up that way.

Most don’t realize that the PDF presets are only starting points. You should create your own presets with the settings required for the task.

Or get PDF presets as .Joboptions from the printers.

But that offset crop marks should be linked to bleed. And optionally unlink it.

But I guess it was a software engineer decision. Someone who programs and not design/print.
