If we’re going for guitar heroes from the olden days, then I have to offer up Michael Schenker era UFO. Love to Love, from the live 1979 album Strangers in the Night. He left the band right after this was recorded, so there were no studio overdubs. They released it as is, and the whole album is a barn burner.

This is not the usual style for Deep Purple and if you read the booklet which comes with the 30th Anniversary Collectors edition of the album you find out it has an interesting history.

I think the tune itself is really good, it’s like the theme tune to a Sci-Fi film. Certainly I thought the title ‘A-200’ suggests a Sci-Fi theme, how wrong I was.

When they had finished recording the album in Montreux, Switzerland, in November 1973 one of the producers from the record company told them that they hadn’t recorded enough music. Apparently the length of the album was written into the contract and they were four minutes short so he insisted that they should record another track.

They had nothing prepared so they started jamming and came up with this brilliant track in about half a day.

When they were asked what it should be called David Coverdale suggested it should be called the ‘Contractual Obligation Song’ but the record company vetoed this. So one of the band reached into his pocket and pulled out a few items. This is why it became known as ‘A-200’ which is the brand name of an American medicine, a cream for treating genital lice.

Enjoy.

If we’re doing that …

I never was a big fan but I love this whole album. 1969. This particular track kicks ass. I think they went downhill after this.

It’s fair to say, @Steve_O and I share very similar musical tastes, so I’m going ‘out there’ with this one. This is a creative forum after all, and KPP is certainly that.

‘Your sauce will mix with ours and we’ll make a good goulash, baby.’ Haven’t listened to it in a while. Guess what is blasting out in the studio right now?

There has been much discussion recently on the forum about AI generated images. So I thought this may be of interest. These are three classic songs but allegedly the lyrics were fed to an AI to generate the images. I don’t know which software was used for the images. They are good songs anyway.

Also some of the images have signatures in the bottom right hand corner which indicates that either they are human generated or the AI is trying to imitate human paintings, interesting.
